Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, and can be physically and mentally crippling. But with a little effort and some simple lifestyle changes, you can avoid this disease.Home Care Malibu CA

Here are some basic lifestyle changes you can adapt to keep this disease at bay.

  • Cut down on sugar – This is one of the most common reasons for developing Diabetes. With the modern American lifestyle encouraging us to indulge in processed foods – foods rich in sugar – we’ve become more prone to developing Diabetes than a few decades ago. Take the effort to eat more “real food” or fresh produce as opposed to instant meals or frequent take outs. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how good you start to feel right away after making a few simple changes. Reduce the extra cut of caffeine you don’t need, or skip the sugar that goes into it. Small steps, but they count in keeping the diabetes and other chronic disease away!

  • Keep your weight DOWN to normal – Yes, slim people do get Diabetes. But research continues to cite obesity and extra weight as the single largest reason for developing diabetes. Use the golden rule of 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week. Make it a fun and thrilling activity so you enjoy it enough to stick with it.

  • Resist becoming a couch potato – Yes, it’s true! Doctors have often quoted people who watch over twenty hours of TV per week run higher risks of attracting the disease than those who watch ten hours or less. Perhaps it’s to do with the sedentary lifestyle, or temptation to snack while you watch. Whatever it is, it sure isn’t good. So skip it.

  • Go slow on your drinks –Frequently indulging in one drink too many plays havoc with your liver. If you feel the need for a social drink, keep it to under one per day (for women) and two per day (for men). Give gaps between drinks days allowing your system to settle.
